A recent article for companies starting on a net zero journey listed Employee Communication and Engagement as Step Five, out of five.
Part of me is pleased that Employee Engagement got a mention at all…
But part of me wants to see employees invited on board at the start of the net zero journey. They have pragmatic, workable ideas on how to reduce emissions. And employees are more likely to support a plan that they actively contributed to from the very beginning.
Without employee engagement, any significant organisational change can quickly hit the buffers. This article recognises this.
But rather than seeing employee engagement as a discrete step in a sequence, I prefer to see it as a thread that runs through everything we do to build a net zero business.
